The first round of the Iowa PGA Spring Junior Open was slightly modified due to inclement weather. All age divisions 14-18 played nine holes, while the first round for the Girls 13 and Under, Boys 12-13 and Boys 11 and Under was cancelled. All groups will be back in action tomorrow at Copper Creek Golf Course.
Paige Hoffman of West Des Moines, Iowa leads the Girls 16-18 age division after carding a 4-over-par 39 in the first round. She will carry a two-stroke lead into the final round over Makenzie Campbell, who recorded a 6-over-par 41 in round one.
Hunter Johnson of Ankeny, Iowa sits atop the Boys 16-18 Division heading into round two. Johnson tallied one birdie, seven pars and a bogey for an even-par 35 first round. Trailing right behind Johnson, are Connor Van Weelden and Burke Pitz, each carded 1-over-par 36 in the first round.
Rylee Heryford of Newton, Iowa carded a 6-over-par 41 in round one, and leads the Girls 14-15 age division. Hallie Yates and Saffire Sayre are tied for second, three-strokes off the lead, after shooting 6-over-par 44 in the first round.
Jake Weissenburger of Clive, Iowa leads the Boys 14-15 age division following his 4-over-par 39 in round one. Weissenburger holds a three-stroke lead over Calvin McNeeley who finished round one with a 7-over-par 42.
The second round of the Iowa PGA Spring Junior Open will be played tomorrow at Copper Creek Golf Course in Pleasant Hill, Iowa. Tee times will begin at 10:00 a.m. Click here
