DID THE IOWA JUNIOR TOUR HAVE A POSITIVE IMPACT ON YOUR LIFE? WHETHER IN GOLF OR GENERAL? HOW SO?

I would not be the golfer, professional, father, and person I am today without the Iowa PGA Junior Tour. I cannot thank the great professionals of the state enough for opening up their facilities to allow juniors to learn the life skills golf provides. The example set by the PGA Professionals as I was growing up made me want to be a golf professional. The lessons learned through competitive golf extend far beyond the traditional skills of golf. Players learn the skills of competition, sportsmanship, facing and overcoming adversity, hard work, and building friendships. These valuable skills will carry into the rest of their lives, regardless of what path they choose.

HOW HAS GOLF CONTINUED TO STAY A PART OF YOUR LIFE, INFLUENCED YOU NOW?

The Iowa PGA Junior Tour taught me a love for competing and the game of golf. The tour introduced me to some of my best friends and to the greatest game ever played. The excitement spurred in me by the Iowa PGA Junior Tour pushed me to pursue competing on regional and national stages and eventually the collegiate level. The annual awards luncheons that I got to attend as a Player of the Year honoree showed me that there is more to the game of golf than just competing. There are countless hardworking people who go to work each day to make the game better in the state of Iowa. These luncheons opened my eyes to a career in golf which I am now pursuing.

DID YOU OR ARE YOU PLAYING COLLEGIATE GOLF? IF YES, WHERE?

Yes, Northwest Missouri State University. Achievements: 2023 MIAA Individual Conference Championship, made it to 2023 National Championship Individually, champion of 2024 Grace Shinn Central Regional Preview, hold several school records

DID THE IOWA JUNIOR TOUR HAVE A POSITIVE IMPACT ON YOUR LIFE? WHETHER IN GOLF OR GENERAL? HOW SO?

It is hard to describe the impact that the Iowa Junior PGA had on my life. When I started playing in the pee wee division, golf was just something I did and I liked getting ice cream at the end from my grandparents. By the time I completed my time on the tour as an 18-year-old, golf was a driving force in my life (but don’t worry I still liked getting ice cream afterwards). The tour allowed me to meet some of my closest friends that I built genuine relationships with. Four years have passed since I played my last Iowa Junior PGA Tour event and I still talk regularly with girls I met on the tour. Some of the girls even became future college teammates and roommates! I was recently was in two weddings for girls I would not have met if it were not for the Iowa Junior PGA Tour. As a golfer, the Iowa Junior PGA Tour allowed me to find a love for competition in a friendly and encouraging environment. I filled my summers with Junior Tour events because I loved getting to play golf with my friends, but I also loved competing against myself. My love for golf grew each summer through the various events and eventually golf became the sole sport I played and collegiate golf a goal of mine. With the support of the Iowa Junior PGA Tour, I was able to accomplish the goal of becoming a college golfer. The Tour had such an immensely positive impact on me that it shaped what I wanted to do for a career. The annual awards luncheons showed me at a young age that there was more to golf than just playing. Early on it became a goal of mine to give back to the game in some way in my career. Tess Goudy was a true role model to me and I wanted to be just like her when I grew up. I now am proud to say that I get to give back to the game that gave so much to me everyday as I work at the Iowa Golf Association as the Director of Development. This role allows me to help the game of golf grow in Iowa and help people find meaningful connections with one another in the process. I am endlessly grateful to the Iowa Junior PGA Tour for helping me get started in this great game!
