  • Junior Academy 2020

    Junior Academy 2020

Thank you for your patience as the Iowa PGA Section worked through the best plan for the 2020 Iowa PGA Junior Golf Academy due to COVID-19.  This long running (40 years) 5-day, 4-night premier golf camp for Iowa PGA Section Juniors will be canceled.  You will receive a full refund.  HOWEVER, we have come up with a fantastic alternative for those juniors who wish to still participate in similar day camps that will be hosted on Monday, June 15, Tuesday, June 16, Wednesday, June 17 or virtually.

CLICK HERE for more information on the new modified Iowa PGA Junior Golf Academy Day Camps.  Instruction provided at these new day camps will be very similar to what would have been received at our traditional Golf Academy.  Camps will run from 9-3 on Monday and Tuesday and from 9-4:30 on Wednesday (includes Par 3 Challenge).  New information will be available each day so attendance at 1, 2 or all 3 days is recommended and encouraged.

John Bermel will continue to be the Academy Day Camp lead instructor and additional Iowa PGA Professionals will also serve as instructors.  Check it out by CLICKING HERE.  These Day Camp tournament info pages are located on the main schedule page as well as a camp schedule page (click on drop down arrow located top middle where it says Complete Schedule of Events).  Great price point and wonderful value.  Each participant will receive an Iowa PGA logo collar shirt, access to online videos, demonstrations, drill skills and the opportunity to receive a video lesson.  Participants are limited to 28 students each day with average ratio of 1 PGA Professional to 3 juniors.

New procedures, policies, guidelines and local rules will be in place.  These files will be located on each day camp tournament info page and sent via email to participants prior to arrival.  Please feel free to call or email with any questions.  Hope it works for you to attend a day or two or many even all three days, if not, make sure to check out the Virtual Iowa PGA Day Academy.

  • Iowa PGA Junior Tour June Events Registration Open

Iowa PGA Junior Tour June Events Registration Open

Due to the CDC Guidelines and Governor Reynolds/Governor Pritzker’s Proclamations, the Iowa PGA has decided to suspend / postpone all Junior Tour and Section Events and Tournaments through the end of May.  We have been making decisions in one or two-week blocks based on information provided and any changes.  With the new Back2Golf guidelines and information coming from both state governments, it has been decided June 1 is a more realistic date to look at starting our events.

Good news.  The Spring Series #2 hosted by Westwood GC has been rescheduled to June 2 and the Spring Series #3 hosted by Muscatine Municipal GC has been rescheduled to June 1.  Both of those events have been updated on the Bluegolf Schedule and at IowaPGAJuniorGolf.com.  Juniors will stay in the event, however If either one of these reschedules do not work for anyone registered, please just call or email and we will refund you.   We’ll also check in with each group of participants for each event as the date draws near.

The Iowa PGA is working on developing new policies and procedures for our events and will be sending those out once they are finalized.  These documents are very fluid and may possibly change from event to event and multiple times up to right before juniors tee off.  Please be patient as we work through new procedures as we are looking to do what is in the best interest for everyone involved.

The National PGA Junior Championship for both boys and girls has been canceled, however we are at this time still planning on hosting both Section Championships.  Any changes to those and any event will be communicated as soon as possible.  Any 2-day event that is hosted will still be sent to JGS and AJGA for ranking.

Final announcement for this week includes the 2020 Junior Cup Matches held with the Gateway Jr PGA have been postponed, date TBD.  Also, the John Deere Classic Junior Open is full for the boys 16-18 division.  If the other divisions do not fill, then those on the wait list will be added to the event.  The Iowa PGA is also looking to send out the Junior Tour & Pee Wee Tour packets sometime the week of May 25.  We’ll keep you posted on all items as we work closer to the summer season.

All events are subject to change at any point based on any proclamations by Federal, State and/or Local Officials throughout the season.  The Iowa PGA Staff reserves the right to change this as well based off of the policies that our host facilities are while administering golf events.

Thank you for your continued patience, we hope you continue to do well and are taking care during this very difficult time.  If you have any questions, comments or concerns, feel free to call or email us anytime.

    Sincerely,
The Iowa PGA Staff, Section Officers and Section Board
  • Upcoming Drive, Chip & Putt Qualifiers Canceled

Upcoming Drive, Chip & Putt Qualifying Season Canceled, 2020 National Finals Rescheduled

    April 15, 2020

Below is information provided from the National Drive, Chip & Putt web site www.drivechipandputt.com

    1. The 2020-21 Drive, Chip and Putt qualifying season, set to begin May 2, will be canceled, given the continued effect of COVID-19 on scheduling during the time period critical to the success of local qualifying. Ultimately, the Founding Partners determined cancellation was the most responsible measure to take in protecting the health of everyone involved in this national endeavor, which includes tens of thousands of participants, their families and all those essential to staging hundreds of qualifying events across all 50 states.

    2. This year’s Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals originally scheduled for April 5, 2020, will be rescheduled for April 4, 2021, the eve of the Masters Tournament. Each National Finalist will be invited to compete at Augusta National Golf Club in the same age division for which he or she previously qualified in 2020, regardless of their age on that date. Purchasers of Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals tickets will be sent a refund in May and guaranteed the opportunity to purchase tickets for the National Finals next year.

“As deeply disappointing as it is for us to make this very difficult decision, it’s clearly the right thing to do for all involved,” said Stu Francis, president of the USGA. “We look forward to seeing everyone play golf again, especially these juniors whose talent, joy and drive to compete inspire all of us.”

“We share in the disappointment of all those who were anticipating the start of Drive, Chip and Putt local qualifying, as well as this year’s National Finalists, who worked so hard to prepare for this April,” said Fred Ridley, Chairman of Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters Tournament. “These decisions protect the health and well-being of the program’s many important constituents and were made independently from our Masters Tournament rescheduling efforts. With no qualifying this summer, we are pleased to maintain this wonderful tradition by welcoming these 80 boys and girls to Augusta National next April.”

“We feel tremendous empathy for the girls and boys across America who will not be able to participate in Drive, Chip and Putt qualifying events throughout our PGA Sections this year,” said Suzy Whaley, president of the PGA of America. “However, in the interest of everyone’s health and safety during this unprecedented time, the difficult decision to cancel the qualifying season is the one and only choice that can be made. We are grateful that this year’s Drive, Chip and Putt National Finalists will have a special opportunity to compete at Augusta National next year. These outstanding junior golfers deserve to follow their dreams, which they worked so hard to achieve, and we all look forward to cheering them on.”
