Tomczuk Named Women’s Fairway Scholarship Recipient-
Riverside, Iowa – Melanie Tomczuk of Davenport Country Club has been named the 2024 Iowa PGA Women’s Fairway Scholarship recipient by the Iowa PGA Scholarship Committee.

The Iowa PGA Section Foundation annually awards one $1,000 Women’s Fairway Scholarship to assist females in furthering their education and training toward a career in golf, pursuing membership with the PGA of America.  Qualified, interested females are welcome to apply.  The Women’s Fairway Scholarship is funded by Master PGA Professional Lisa Miller, the first female PGA member in the Iowa PGA Section and by her spouse Sharon Hawn a lifelong educator, public health professional and avid golfer.

The Women’s Fairway Scholarship is being awarded for the very first time in 2024.  Tomczuk is the first ever award winner.  There can only be “one first ever”.

When asked on what this means to win, Tomczuk responded with, “Being the first recipient of the Women’s Fairway Scholarship is an incredible honor and means so much to me. It’s not just about the financial support; it’s a recognition of the hard work, dedication, and passion I’ve put into my professional golf journey. This scholarship inspires me to continue pushing forward as an associate and someone committed to growing and supporting the game of golf. Furthermore, this represents a stepping stone toward achieving my goals and making a lasting impact in the golf community.”

She has been in golf for 4 years, having started this career in 2020. She will always look back on it because golf was booming! She was hired by PGA Head Golf Professional, Brian Delaney after graduating from Augustana College. At the time she never thought she would stick around for more than a summer. It wasn’t until she started getting into teaching that made her so excited about what she does. Seeing kids or women get that spark of hitting a great shot is something even till this day brings her so much joy!

Now that we are in 2024, she has taken her career to a whole new level. She is now the lead program director for the Junior Golf Programs and Women’s Development programs at Davenport Country Club.  She was awarded the Iowa PGA Assistant Golf Professional of the Year in 2023.  She also finally completed Level one of the PGA Associates programs. Her work ethic and love for the game has helped her understand that this career path is the perfect fit for her.

The funds from this scholarship will be used to cover essential expenses such as study materials, exam fees, and other program-related costs, allowing her to focus on her studies and professional development. Her goal is to become a certified PGA professional and contribute positively to the golf community.

One of her short-term goals is to get her junior golf programs close to 250 participants and her women’s programs up to 100 participants by the start of June of 2025. With the amount of new membership, we have at DCC these last couple years she thinks it is a very achievable goal if she keeps promoting her programs within the club and our social media!

Her long-term goals are to start her own golf school in the Quad Cities. She is passionate about helping golfers of all ages and skill levels develop their game in a supportive and fun environment. By creating a dedicated space for learning and growth, she aims to inspire the next generation of golfers and foster a love for the sport in the community. It’s a dream that combines her love for teaching with her desire to make a positive impact on the local golfing scene.

Brian Delaney, PGA Head Golf Professional at Davenport Country Club has these nice words to say, “There are great and exciting things happening at Davenport CC and Melanie is a massive part of it. The operation would not be the same without her and her growth mindset. She has become a part of the culture here and we are very excited to see the great heights she will achieve as a golf professional. Melanie is a great ambassador of the game, especially for women and our Junior Golfers, here and will continue to be for her entire career.”

Tomczuk won the Iowa PGA Assistant Professional of the Year in 2023.

The Iowa PGA Congratulates Melainie Tomczuk as our 2024 Iowa PGA Women’s Fairway Scholarship.
